Vaila Hornsby

Vaila Hornsby is an Associate in Dentons' Edinburgh office and a member of the Projects practice group, specializing in contentious construction.

Since qualifying as a solicitor in 2024, she has advised UK and international clients, including contractors, subcontractors and employers, on construction and engineering disputes. Her work covers defective design and workmanship claims, contractual interpretation, delay claims and payment disputes. She has experience in both Court of Session and Sheriff Court matters as well as adjudication and other alternative dispute resolution methods. Notable matters include advising on a high-profile FPSO defects dispute, assisting on seven adjudications in a complex construction dispute, and advising Taylor Wimpey on construction defects and delay claims. She has also advised on PPP project handovers, contract variations and novations across the health, education, transport, waste and housing sectors, as well as O&M contract negotiations for offshore windfarms.

Vaila holds an LL.B from the University of Strathclyde (2020) and a Diploma in Professional Legal Practice from the University of Edinburgh (2021).
