Timothy Stubbs

Timothy Stubbs is a Partner at Dentons in London, practicing in the Banking and Finance group. He specialises in cross‑border financings of all types—including bilateral and syndicated lending, real estate finance, and limited recourse finance—as well as corporate debt restructurings and insolvency, with a particular focus on emerging markets.

Tim has more than 30 years' experience working on transactions across Central and Eastern Europe, Central Asia, the Caucasus, and other emerging markets. He has represented creditors' groups in successful workouts in Indonesia, Azerbaijan, Nicaragua, and Poland, and advised the Government of Uzbekistan on implementing its new insolvency law. He also has extensive experience advising on cross‑border finance and M&A transactions involving international financial institutions, including for major clients such as Deutsche Bank, Caterpillar Inc., Kimberly‑Clark Corporation, and Black Sea Trade and Development Bank. He is a member of Dentons' Russia Desk, advising on divestiture and restructuring strategies for Russian subsidiaries and cross‑border debt repayment structures.

Tim holds a J.D. and an M.A. from the University of Michigan (1985, 1986), a B.A. from the University of Michigan (1982), and studied at Leningrad State University (1984). He is admitted to the bars of Illinois (1986, currently inactive) and New York (1989).

He is recognised as a leading lawyer in Banking & Finance and Restructuring & Insolvency in Russia by Chambers Global, The Legal 500 Hall of Fame, IFLR1000, and Best Lawyers. He is the co‑author of Corporate Debt Restructuring in Emerging Markets: A Practical Post‑Pandemic Guide (Palgrave Macmillan, 2021) and its companion volume, Emerging Markets Debt Restructuring — Effectively Navigating Local Institutional Frameworks (2024).
