Joss Hargrave

Joss Hargrave is a Partner and Co-Head of the Finance & Financial Regulation Group at Bird & Bird in London, and is also Co-Head of the firm's International Restructuring & Insolvency Group. His practice focuses on Banking and Finance Law.

On the finance side, Joss advises lenders and borrowers on transactions ranging from acquisition finance, sports finance and real estate finance to asset-based lending. Football finance in particular is a strong specialism, and he acts for various banks and clubs on cross-border and domestic transfer and media financings.

On the restructuring and insolvency side, he advises banks, funds, insolvency practitioners, distressed corporates, directors and creditors (secured and unsecured) on a wide variety of situations, including financial restructurings and formal insolvency procedures. Particular areas of expertise are in distressed situations in the retail and aviation sectors.

His recent experience includes advising Macquarie Bank on a loan to a top-flight German football club secured against the club's media rights monies payable from the Bundesliga, advising on a loan to an English Premier League football club secured against the club's media rights monies payable from the English Premier League, and advising on a loan to a Brazilian sugar producer in relation to financing the export of sugar from Brazil to a Swiss commodities importer.

He also advised Punjab National Bank, the lender, in relation to the administration of Techtrek UK Limited and a dispute relating to the shares in Memar, an Italian subsidiary.

He studied Law and Criminology (BA) at The University of Sheffield and was admitted to The Law Society of England & Wales in 2000.
