Patrick Cordwell

Patrick Cordwell is an Associate in the Competition team in London. His primary practice area is Competition Law.

His work covers all aspects of competition law, including merger clearance, restrictive trade practices and cartel investigations. He also advises on foreign direct investment control.

He particularly enjoys working with clients to guide them through complex multi-jurisdictional matters, whether advising on clearance strategy as part of a global merger control mandate or advising on the competition law implications of cross-border commercial arrangements, collaborating with lawyers across the firm's offices.

He is an Australian qualified lawyer and, prior to joining Bird & Bird in London, was an associate in the Competition and Regulatory team in the firm's Sydney office, where he advised clients on competition law as well as Australia's telecommunications regulatory regime. He maintains a strong interest in the intersection between these two practice areas.

Prior to his admission as a lawyer, he worked in policy and legislative monitoring and reporting in the Press Gallery at Parliament House, Canberra, an experience he continues to draw on when advising clients on navigating complex and evolving regulatory frameworks, particularly in fast-moving sectors like tech and communications.
