Matthew Hanslip Ward

Matthew Hanslip Ward is a Partner in the Projects practice, specialising in Infrastructure Law. He is a specialist in transport and a recognised leader in the field with nearly 20 years' experience, having been involved in projects across the world with particular expertise in the rail industry, infrastructure project development and economic regulation.

Matthew has advised passenger and freight train companies, train manufacturers, maintenance companies, Governments, investors, contractors and developers on infrastructure developments including new-build railways, commercial contracts, track, station and depot access, franchise and concession bids and operations, and regulatory and legislative issues. He has led teams on nearly 20 franchise and concession bids and supported clients including MTR, Deutsche Bahn, London Overground, Virgin Trains and Northern Rail. He is currently involved in the Crossrail project, the largest urban transport project in Europe, and has also advised on transport projects across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

Matthew has extensive experience of the freight and logistics sector, advising on rail freight operations, intermodal arrangements and new-build logistics networks, as well as acting for regulators on market liberalisation, framework design and economic regulation. He holds an M.A. in English from Magdalene College, University of Cambridge.
