Liz Tout

Liz Tout is a Consultant at Dentons in London, practicing in the UK Disputes practice and the Energy and Infrastructure group, specializing in Dispute Resolution. She has extensive experience in international commercial litigation and arbitration, particularly in the energy sector, as well as engineering and construction disputes.

Liz advises major oil and gas companies on arbitration, litigation, expert determination, and mediation across a range of matters, including oil, gas, and LNG pricing, pre‑emption, production sharing contracts, concession agreements, cost sharing, and JOA disputes. Notable matters include representing a multinational energy company in a dispute over pre‑emption rights and contractual interpretation in relation to oilfields in Africa; acting for two multinational energy companies in an ICC arbitration concerning forfeiture provisions under a joint operating agreement for a hydrocarbons block in Central Asia; advising a multinational energy company on an ICC arbitration seeking specific performance of JOA obligations offshore Nigeria; acting for an oil and gas company in US Courts regarding legal and equitable interests in North Sea petroleum licences; and acting for the seller in three separate LNG price reviews under UNCITRAL Rules. She also advises on disputes in rail, IT, and M&A transactions, and has represented states in investment treaty arbitrations.

Liz holds an LL.B from Cardiff University (1980) and completed her legal training at The College of Law. She is a Solicitor of the Senior Courts of England and Wales.

She has been consistently recognised as a leading practitioner: ranked Band 1 in Energy & Natural Resources: Disputes by Chambers (2016–2019), recognised in the Legal 500 Hall of Fame in International Arbitration and Commercial Litigation, and named a Litigation Star by Benchmark Litigation.
