Torquil Law

Torquil Law is a Partner in Dentons' London office, specialising in Energy Law. He focuses on international upstream oil and gas transactions, advising on complex and high-value acquisitions, disposals and project developments, particularly in the Middle East, Central Asia and Africa, with expertise in oil and gas M&A, project development, energy transition projects and LNG.

Torquil has led negotiations on major cross-border energy M&A, joint venture and project development mandates for oil and gas majors, nationals and independents, including multi-billion-dollar transactions. Notable matters include advising PetroChina on the acquisition of a strategic stake in Qatar's North Field Expansion project, advising Wintershall Dea on its acquisition of Edison International's interest in the Algerian Reggane Nord gas project, and advising Romgaz on the acquisition of ExxonMobil's Romanian Black Sea assets. He has also advised Petronas on its sale of interests in the Shah Deniz project in Azerbaijan and Hurricane Energy PLC on its US$250 million takeover by the Prax Group.

Torquil holds a B.A. in French and Italian from the University of Bristol (2008), a Graduate Diploma in Law from BPP Law School (2010), and completed the Legal Practice Course at the College of Law (2011). He has completed client secondments with TotalEnergies and Marathon Oil, and spent nine months at the National Wealth Fund advising on energy transition investments.
