Mel Mahon

Mel Mahon is a Senior Associate in Dentons' Energy, Transport and Infrastructure team, specialising in Energy Law. He advises on complex energy and transport projects, with a focus on renewable energy project development across multiple technologies, distribution and transmission power networks, and energy regulation. He was named a Leading Associate for Renewables by Legal 500 in 2025.

Mel has considerable experience advising project developers, contractors, offtakers and government clients on solar, battery storage, hydrogen and energy from waste projects, as well as electric vehicle infrastructure. He has advised on the whole lifecycle of battery storage projects, including mineral extraction, supply, operation and maintenance, optimisation, offtake and revenue floor arrangements, and end-of-life battery recycling regulation. Notable matters include advising Zenobē Energy Limited on the development of a 200MW/800MWh BESS project in Coalburn, Scotland—one of the UK's largest BESS projects—advising Société Générale on the project financing of a 54MW solar PV portfolio in Ireland, and advising on a joint venture with an Indonesian conglomerate for the supply of nickel and sulphate concentrates.

Mel holds an LL.B. (Hons) from Queen’s University Belfast (2012), an LL.M. in Law and Governance from Queen’s University Belfast (2013), and an LL.M. in Law and Business Management (Legal Practice Course) from the University of Law (2016).
