Emma Mackenzie Nation is an Associate in Bird & Bird's Intellectual Property Group in London. Her primary practice area is Intellectual Property Law, with broad experience across contentious, advisory and transactional matters and a particular interest in the intersection of law, technology and innovation.

She advises clients on the protection and enforcement of their IP rights across both contentious and advisory matters. Her practice spans the full spectrum of IP rights — from copyright and trade marks to technology and data — and includes large-scale telecommunications patent litigation, including FRAND and SEP matters.

She acts for clients in complex, high-value disputes across brand protection, technology and data, and particularly enjoys working closely with clients to understand the rights and assets that matter most to their business and helping them decide how best to protect them, whether through navigating a complex dispute, responding to or bringing an infringement action, or thinking ahead about how changes in the law or the wider market might affect their position.

She holds an LLM with Distinction in Intellectual Property and Information Law from King's College London, where she was awarded the prize for best student on the programme. Her studies covered copyright and trade mark law, international perspectives on freedom of speech, and AI development and its intersection with the law, including research into social media regulation and the spread of conspiracy theories online.
