Richard Barham

Richard Barham is a Partner in Dentons' London Corporate department. His practice focuses on Mergers and Acquisitions, with particular experience in joint ventures, corporate governance and privatizations.

He also advises regularly on establishing and reorganizing companies and businesses (both solvent and insolvent), other commercial agreements and associated regulatory issues.

Richard works across a number of sectors. In particular he advises on transactions in the transportation sector (rail, road and air, including a three-year period working on the UK rail privatization), and the financial sector (such as a bank's own M&A and debt-equity restructurings of bank customers). He heads the firm's sports practice, focusing on M&A, financings and commercial agreements, and regularly advises public sector clients, including the UK government.

Most of the transactions in which he is involved are cross-border, and he has worked on deals involving 100+ jurisdictions. In particular, Richard has advised on numerous matters in Russia and the CIS, the Middle East and Africa, and more recently on transactions involving China, Japan and India.

He holds an MA in Jurisprudence from Trinity College, University of Oxford, and completed the Law Society Finals (Hons) at The College of Law. He is recognised by Chambers, which notes that "working with Richard is a pleasure" and describes him as "calm, extremely knowledgeable" with "an ability to defuse the confrontation inevitable in negotiations", and by Legal 500 for having "huge corporate law experience" and providing "clarity in an understandable way, without the legal jargon".
