Oliver Poynton

Oliver Poynton is an Associate (listed as Senior Associate) in Bird & Bird's Dispute Resolution team in London. His practice focuses on Arbitration and Mediation.

He advises clients across a broad spectrum of contentious and advisory matters and frequently works with clients in the financial, technology and renewable energy sectors.

He holds dual specialisms in commercial litigation and international arbitration, including experience of arbitrating under the rules of the LCIA, ICC, DIAC, DIFC-LCIA and the Court of Arbitration for Sport. He also acts for clients involved in alternative dispute resolution (including mediation) and expert determination procedures.

He is a member of the firm's Technology & Communications and Energy & Utilities groups and works with colleagues across the firm's global network. Much of his work carries an international element, and he has experience advising clients involved in foreign proceedings in relation to international letters of request for evidence and applications for ancillary and injunctive relief in England & Wales.

Within his focus sectors, he has experience advising in relation to licensing, IT and technology outsourcing, data privacy, public law and cyber security matters. He also works on civil fraud, insurance and company law-related matters.

He qualified at his former firm in September 2019, completing an international secondment. He subsequently worked as in-house counsel during a secondment to a global technology company.
