James Langley

James Langley is a Partner at Dentons, specialising in Arbitration and Mediation. He holds Higher Rights of Audience and focuses on international commercial arbitration, investor-state arbitration, commercial litigation and alternative dispute resolution, predominantly within the energy and infrastructure, retail, telecoms, shipping and sports sectors, including proceedings under ICSID, ICC, LCIA, DIFC-LCIA, UNCITRAL, LMAA and ADCCAC rules.

James has extensive experience working with both companies and states, with a particular focus on Central Asia and Africa. He has successfully defended a South Asian state against a US$275 million BIT claim, acted for a multinational energy company in an ICC arbitration concerning an SPA dispute, and advised a South Asian state in English court challenges to arbitral awards worth several billion dollars. He has also acted for an international insurance group in an ICC arbitration concerning a refinery project, for four international banks in LCIA proceedings exceeding US$350 million, and for Sudapet Company Limited in a claim of more than US$1 billion against the Republic of South Sudan under ICSID Rules.

James holds a B.A. in Modern History from St Anne's College, Oxford University (2003), a Graduate Diploma in Law from BPP Law School (2004), and completed the Legal Practice Course at BPP Law School (2005).
