Josh Gallan

Josh Gallan is a Data Protection Advisor within Bird & Bird Privacy Solutions. His primary practice area is Data Protection Law.

He holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, and a Master of Laws (LLM) in Advanced Studies in Law and Digital Technologies from Leiden University, The Netherlands. He recently completed the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE1).

Before joining Bird & Bird, he worked at a large European automotive manufacturer within their legal department, assisting both the UK and Irish markets regarding data protection compliance and data processing activities. This included data subject rights procedures and processes (access, rectification, deletion and objection requests), incident reporting, legitimate interest (LI) and data protection impact assessment (DPIA) advisory activities. He assisted the legal department with connected vehicle contracts, data sharing agreements, and associated legal data protection requirements surrounding accountability, transparency and (joint) controllership responsibilities.

His experience covers both EU/UK GDPR and ePrivacy-related activities, with a particular focus on AI, connected services and adtech. In the past, he worked for a technology consultancy company focused on devising, implementing and monitoring the creation and optimisation of Personal Information Management Systems (PIMS).
