James McMullan

James McMullan is the Partner and Head of Private Client at RIAA Barker Gillette (UK) LLP, specialising in Estate Planning. With 36 years of experience, his practice encompasses all aspects of private client law, including estate planning, Inheritance Tax, lasting powers of attorney, wills, trusts, mental capacity issues, probate and contentious probate.

James is an associate member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), the Association of Lifetime Lawyers and the Association of Contentious Trusts and Probate Specialists (ACTAPS). He has settled Inheritance Act claims, including a recent matter involving an estate with an approximate gross value of £1,000,000, and advises on trust administration, lifetime gifts and living wills. He frequently uses alternative dispute resolution to resolve disputes efficiently and is committed to spending sufficient time with clients at the outset to fully understand their needs and objectives.

James holds an LL.B. (Hons) from London Metropolitan University (1987), a B.A. in Spanish and Social Anthropology from Queen's University, Belfast (1984), and has completed the STEP Diploma in Trusts & Estates with Distinction and the STEP Advanced Certificate in Will Drafting.
