Ricardo de Oliveira

Ricardo de Oliveira is an Associate in Bird & Bird's international Aviation & Aerospace sector group, based in London. His practice focuses on Aviation Law.

He predominantly works on finance and leasing transactions in the aviation sector, but has extensive experience in aviation disputes, regulatory and insurance matters. This multifaceted experience means he can advise clients holistically by anticipating regulatory implications, understanding how agreements may play out in disputes, and recognising the commercial pressures that drive decision-making across the aircraft lifecycle.

His career has navigated four countries across Europe, Africa and the Middle East, including in private practice, in-house counsel at an airline, and at a large OEM. Having worked on all sides of the table gives him a unique vantage point in understanding the day-to-day challenges airlines and lessors face when managing fleets, the strategic priorities that drive OEM decision-making, and the precision required to deliver robust legal advice. This allows him to cut through complexity and provide practical, commercially astute solutions that resonate with the operational realities of the aviation industry.

He holds an advanced Masters Degree in Air and Space Law from Leiden University.
