Patrick Brown

Patrick Brown is an Associate in the Intellectual Property Group in London, with a particular focus on the life sciences, pharmaceutical and chemical sectors. His primary practice area is Patent Law.

He assists clients with a wide range of contentious and non-contentious IP matters, including patents, trade marks, plant breeder's rights and breach of confidence. He also works with clients in the life sciences, food, pharmaceutical and consumer healthcare sectors on a range of other matters including regulatory compliance, licensing and distribution agreements.

He has a strong scientific background, allowing him to fully understand the challenges faced by science and innovation-driven businesses. He holds a PhD in chemistry and, prior to joining the firm, worked as a research scientist in leading universities in Australia and the UK, as well as at a top 10 global pharmaceutical company. He has also worked as a science and innovation consultant across the food, beverage and consumer goods sectors.

This background allows him to have a particular focus on providing technical input into matters which have a substantial scientific component. For example, he has analysed complex pharmaceutical patents and manufacturing processes to provide freedom to operate advice and worked on a spectrum of patent re-examination matters for major pharmaceutical companies.
