Matthew Vance

Matthew Vance is a Senior Associate in the London Commercial Group, working almost exclusively on Hospitality and Franchising matters. His primary practice area is Franchise Law.

He helps brand owners and various stakeholders (including owners, investors, managers and suppliers) develop new relationships with each other and successfully manage existing ones.

He frequently advises on a wide range of commercial models including franchising, distribution, licensing, outsourcing, joint venture and management agreements, as well as a number of bespoke models that combine different elements of these.

He was recognised as a "Rising Star" in Hospitality & Leisure by Legal 500 in 2020, 2023 and 2024, an "Associate to Watch" in Hotels & Leisure by Chambers UK in 2023 and 2024, and an "Associate to Watch" in Franchising by Chambers Global in 2024.

Highlights of his work include developing new template franchise and management documentation for a number of leading hotel and F&B brands; coordinating the rollout of a new business model in more than 70 countries for a top flex-office services provider; and providing ongoing transactional franchise support in EMEA for a global hotel chain.

Before his life as a lawyer, he worked in an oriental rug shop in Istanbul, which taught him many of the core commercial principles that continue to apply to his work as a lawyer today.
