Brendan Abley

Brendan Abley is a Senior Associate in the firm's Environmental and ESG team, based in the London office. He advises on environment, health and safety regulatory and compliance matters, ESG issues, major energy and infrastructure projects, and environmental litigation and investigations. He is also experienced in the environmental aspects of major commercial and real estate transactions, including contaminated land management, and specializes in climate change law, advising on obligations under emissions trading systems and carbon credit agreements.

Mr. Abley has advised on €125 million of development finance for a 230 MW portfolio of Irish solar farms, on a regulatory investigation by the New Zealand Environmental Protection Authority regarding compliance with the Emissions Trading Scheme, and on the environmental and planning due diligence for the acquisition of a construction materials conglomerate operating in Ireland. He has also advised Ireland's transport planning and investment agency on the Metrolink project (the largest state infrastructure investment in Ireland's history), an Irish wind farm developer on the consenting of a major offshore wind project, and New Zealand's largest steel manufacturer on a significant decarbonisation investment involving a new electric arc furnace.

Brendan holds an LLB (Hons) from the University of Auckland (2015). He is admitted to practice in New Zealand (2015), Ireland (2021), and England and Wales (2025).
