Ben Towell

Ben Towell is an Associate in the Commercial Group in London, focusing on Telecommunications Law. He advises clients on regulatory and commercial matters across the technology and communications sector.

His practice centres on telecoms regulation and digital services, with a particular focus on helping clients navigate complex and evolving regulatory frameworks across multiple jurisdictions. He has significant experience on international projects centred on the rollout of technology products and services subject to increasing regulatory scrutiny, including over-the-top VoIP applications, connected products and satellite-enabled connectivity services.

He regularly runs multi-jurisdictional projects, including the design and management of global regulatory monitoring programmes and cross-border compliance reviews. His experience also encompasses the regulatory and licensing aspects of corporate transactions, including M&A involving technology assets, as well as regulatory enforcement matters and engagement with regulators to achieve constructive outcomes.

Prior to joining Bird & Bird, he gained experience at two international law firms, a global legal information and research company and a legal tech start-up, giving him a strong understanding of the intersection between law, technology and innovation.
